šŸ‘€ Sam Altman is also worried about AI

Source: ABC

The biggest dangers that AI poses, according to Sam Altman?

Cyberattacks. Bad actors. Misinformation.

In an interview with ABC, he explained to the layman his goals for AI. He also went over what he’s worried about.

For one: Saying incorrect things.

ā€œThe right way to think of the models that we create is a reasoning engine, not a fact database," Altman said. "They can also act as a fact database, but that's not really what's special about them – what we want them to do is something closer to the ability to reason, not to memorize."

He’s also worried about cyberattacks.

"I'm particularly worried that these models could be used for large-scale disinformation," Altman said. "Now that they're getting better at writing computer code, [they] could be used for offensive cyberattacks."

Whereas, when asked about an AI uprising, he assured us that humans are ā€œvery much in control.ā€

He’s got the closest proximity to the bleeding edge of AI as a public figure. So, you should watch the whole interview.

His view is optimistic.

Let’s hope he’s right!

šŸ¤“ An AI news anchor that doesn’t sleep

The next job to lose to AI? News anchors.

China’s state-run media arm, People Daily, announced a new anchor this week.

She’s fake. AI-generated.

Xiarong, as she’s referred to, reports on Chinese news 24 hours a day, every day. While her creators claim she can answer questions on any news topic, the truth is far more sinister. She can only answer pre-fed questions from the government related to a very narrow set of topics.

Essentially, she’s a propaganda machine.

This isn’t the first AI-powered anchor coming from China. In 2018, they debuted an English-speaking anchor based on an existing member of the media. That anchor was AI-generated too.

The idea of a 24/7/365 AI news anchor from the government feels like something from the 22nd century.

AI is turning development years into days.

🤯 What happened when an AI CEO took over

Guys, I really think we should pivot to making more semiconductors.

How confident are you in the decisions of your executive team?

What if they were AI? Would you be more, or less confident?

A Chinese gaming company wanted to find out. So, they actually did it.

NetDragon appointed Tang Yu, an AI, as CEO of its subsidiary, Fujian NetDragon Websoft.

So…what does that mean?

The company said the humanoid robot would ā€œstreamline process flow, enhance the quality of work tasks, and improve the speed of executionā€.

Tang Yu will also operate as ā€œa real-time data hub and analytical tool to support rational decision-making in daily operations and enable a more effective risk management systemā€.

In addition, ā€œTang Yu is expected to play a critical role in the development of talents and ensuring a fair and efficient workplace for all employeesā€.

What’s not clear is if Tang Yu will a) actually make decisions or b) have a human to double check those decisions.

Here’s the thing. All that was six months ago.

It’s hard to know how much of that the AI CEO drove, but the fact the company is still there is…telling.

We’ll have to wait to see if the AI CEO wants the company to pivot to AI.
