🤓 Yelp brings you AI-powered search

LOOK AT IT. There’s AI now. Somewhere. Source: Yelp

Yelp is going against the grain. They're adding AI to their search.

To learn more, let's head over to the happiest place on earth: corporate blogs. There, Yelp outlines how they're using LLMs to make their search useful.

Yelp is using LLMs to enhance the search results with review highlights, as well as making it easier for you to narrow down your search with new clickable category tags and Surprise Me.

What can they do better now? Understand intent.

Let's say you're a yuppie searching for “tennis courts”. Now, you won't just get a list of tennis courts. Yelp will surface useful information, like if you need to book the court in advance.

They’ve also expanded the scope of search to more than local results. That’s “AI-powered” too, although they didn’t say how.

Yelp’s future as the search engine for activities has hope.

👀 TikTok gets more of your data, adds AI avatars

If you've spent any time on Twitter, you've seen AI avatars. It’s an easy way to look better in your profile photo without actually looking better. Using AI.

Websites like avatarai.me ask for a few photos of you, and money. They then spit out dozens of variations of you in different styles and environments.

Now, a leak shows that TikTok will let you do it in-app.

The concept is simple.

Send it 3-10 photos, get up to 30 different avatars back.

It's free, but AI is expensive. You can only do this once a day.

"BUT WHAT ABOUT THE DATA THEY STEA-" Allegedly, they delete the images after a certain amount of time too.

Allegedly.

Why do this for free? These apps are viral. Capturing that virality in-app makes stickier users.

Plus, like we said. More data. TikTok gets free model training by seeing which photos you pick.

😬 Boston Dynamics gave a robot ChatGPT

A Boston Dynamics engineer revealed they gave a robot dog access to ChatGPT.

The purpose? Query the data from their thousands of training runs. It’s tough to do that as a human. For an AI? Not so much.

We show it the configuration files and the mission results. We then ask questions using that context. Put that together with a voice-enabled interface, and we have an awesome way to query our data! We can now ask the robots about past and future missions and get an answer in real-time. ChatGPT interprets the question, parses the files, and formulates the answer.

So innocent, right?

Remember this moment when the robot dogs are making us play fetch for the 300th straight hour.
