šŸ¤– Ex-Apple AI startup with no product raises $100m

PLUS: Anthropic raised $300m AGAIN

Good morning. Happy Saturday.

Here’s us keeping up with all the AI news.

It’s tough being a robot.

Alright, who’s next up to announce an AI feature?

Discord? Sure.

Discord added a ton of new AI-powered features for its instant messaging social app.

Now, AI is already happening on Discord. Remember Midjourney? You can only use Midjourney through interacting with a Discord bot.

Now, Discord's decided to bake some AI in-house.

They started with some supercharged AI automod features. AI automod can find messages that violate an individual server’s rules, and alert the human mods.

Next up is the typical conversation summaries and AI avatar retouches. You know, what everyone uses AI for.

One of our favorite features is a new whiteboard. It's got built-in scribble-to-picture transformation. Draw anything, and soup it up with their AI.

Finally, they’re investing $5m into anyone wanting to build AI bots on Discord. Winners will get cash grants, office hours with the Discord AI team, and cloud credits.

Discord skews way younger, too.

When Salesforce and Discord announce AI features in the same week, it's telling.

šŸ‘€ Anthropic AI raises $300m, then raises another $300m 3 months later

Mountains of cash for Anthropic AI.

A ChatGPT competitor couldn’t resist double-dipping the funding.

Remember Anthropic? Who raised $300m from Google like two months ago?

They raised another $300m for a whopping $4.1bn valuation.

Talk about some fresh cash.

Recall Anthropic’s AI, Claude, powers a few startups; notably Quora’s Poe service.

This amount of cash means two things.

They need a lot of compute power, and they’re ready to go head to head with OpenAI for generative chat dominance.

šŸ¤” Humane AI raises $100m Series C with no product, revenue

Can one of you tell me what your company does?? Source: humane

$100m in funding. Ex-Apple executives. 5 years since founding.

No product whatsoever.

This is the new reality for AI.

Humane, founded by two Apple engineers who met while working on the iPad, raised $100m in funding. Has it released a product? No. Has it announced a product? Also no.

So what are they working on?

As far as Apple Insider can tell, it’ll be a hardware device that uses AI. From patent filings, a wearable too.

Here’s some marketing speak.

Our first device will enable people to bring AI with them everywhere. It’s an exciting time, and we’ve been focused on how to build the platform and device that can fully harness the true power and potential of this technology.

We are extremely proud to announce this industry leading line-up of partners and collaborators, and we are thrilled to work closely with them to bring Humane’s vision to market. We are at the beginning of the next era of compute, and believe that together we can begin the journey to fundamentally reshape the role of technology in people’s lives.

Imran Chaudhri, Co-Founder of Humane

Yeah, we don’t know either.

They announced they’re partnering with Microsoft, OpenAI, and SK Networks. They also have agreements with LG and Volve to integrate their AI tech.

$100m at no revenue or product is wild. But then again, that’s the current state of AI investing.
