šŸ¤– Github’s new AI is a defining moment for software

PLUS: ChatGPT in your sidebar

I can’t imagine trying to keep up with all this AI news.

šŸ¤“ The world’s best AI programming gets better

Explain the code. Source: Github

A week after Microsoft gave you an AI assistant for Office apps, Github is doing the same. With a new feature called Copilot X.

What started as a simple code autocomplete tool now can do SO MUCH MORE. Github’s vision changes programming.

The new copilot will...

  1. explain highlighted code blocks

  2. generate new functions based on a prompt

  3. automatically create docs and code change requests.

Copilot X is stripping the mundane and painful parts of being a programmer away.

The stats from their V1 are insane. 74% of devs focus on more satisfying work, 88% feel more productive, and 96% are faster with repetitive tasks.

You can’t buy that kind of NPS.

We can't ignore Github’s distribution advantage. Microsoft is firing on all cylinders.

šŸ‘€ Generative AI comes to gaming

AI salivates as it looks at the gaming industry.

Gaming is famously digital asset-heavy. Its members are technical. And its leaders are desperate to squeeze efficiency out of anything they can.

Enter Unity. They power some of your favorite games like Pokemon Go, Cuphead, and Call of Duty mobile.

In short, they own mobile gaming.

They’re the simplest way to make a game, and they want to make it EVEN EASIER.

Using AI, of course.

Cue Unity’s AI marketplace. They followed Google’s lead and announced a waitlist for it this week.

Dubbed ā€œAI powered game developmentā€, the idea is straightforward. Imagine any asset in your game, and generate it using AI.

The demo shows the dev commanding ā€œshow two seconds of thunderā€. That appears, instead of having to code it themselves.

Devs lives will improve. But gaming and creators go hand in hand. And creators don't like AI-generated content.

Who will win?

🤯 Opera is still a web browser, now with ChatGPT

Source: Opera

Opera might just be our new favorite browser.

That's because Opera announced AI features built right into the browser.

They also added ChatGPT. Of course.

First, the expected. You can use ChatGPT right in the browser as a sidebar. Once linked, you can highlight text on a page and feed it through the AI chatbots to do, well, whatever you want.

Here’s something a bit different. A feature called AI prompts. Use AI prompts to summarize an article, shorten it, or create a tweet from it. With the click of a button.

The best browser features start as extensions, and this feels like a hackathon project extension. Except it’s baked right in to the browser.

Bravo, Opera.

We expect to see this next week for Microsoft Edge. And announced as a waitlist in 3-6 months for Google Chrome.
