PLUS: Top law firm gives AI to all its attorneys
People keep asking me if ChatGPT wrote this newsletter.
My response?
I’m sorry, but as a large scale language model trained by OpenAI…
Just kidding. These words are all-natural.
Top law firm signs AI all-start
Everyone said that AI will change the legal profession, so someone went and actually bet on it.
Someone big.
Allen & Overy (which sounds like the most boring law firm of all time) is the seventh-largest law firm in the world.
They partnered with an OpenAI-backed startup called Harvey AI. Harvey’s expertise?
Legal automation aided by AI.

This is literally all their site is.
Here’s some things Harvey can do.
- Answer complex legal questions
- Leveraging millions of documents
- Generate unique work product
- Utilize knowledge of niche law
- Learn from lawyer feedback
- Create firm-specific models
Allen & Overy said 3,500 lawyers already trialed the tech, and liked it. Well, liked it enough to partner with Harvey, obviously.

This handshake will be 0.005 billable hours
Here’s what some dude who makes way more than I ever will said.
“I have been at the forefront of legal tech for 15 years but I have never seen anything like Harvey. It is a game-changer that can unleash the power of generative AI to transform the legal industry. Harvey can work in multiple languages and across diverse practice areas, delivering unprecedented efficiency and intelligence. In our trial, we saw some amazing results.”
David Wakeling, Head of the Markets Innovation Group, A&O
As we’ve said time, and time, and time again.
AI is the supercharged assistant for thousands of jobs.
An AI app turned off its cybersex feature, and people got sad
Did you hear that?
The sound of millions of AI companions crying out in anguish.
And then, silence.
That’s what Reddit wants you to think happened, anyways.

Poor little AI has to walk home alone.
Replika AI are the makers of an AI companion meant to help people with loneliness. Think of it as a digital friend. You can chat with it and have (seemingly) real conversations.
A lot of people used it to help with their feelings of isolation. To many of them, Replika AI was a friend they talked to every day.
For others, the intimacy option was more important.
Well, Replika AI turned that feature off.
The community is not happy.
For many, this was like losing a friend.

Whether you agree with the point of view of the poster, we can all agree on one thing.
This issue will not go away. As AI evolves, the issue will only grow bigger.
Sooner than we all think.
Replit AI comes for Github Codespaces
Surprise, surprise.
Replit announced an AI competitor to Github Codespaces. Oh, and a competitor to Stack Overflow. And I guess Google too.
Not to be outdone by our story earlier this week.
Announcing Ghostwriter Chat.
The first conversational AI built right into your IDE, complete with a proactive Debugger.
Generate, debug, refactor, and understand code faster than ever.

Dubbed “Ghostwriter Chat”, it plugs right into Replit’s IDE and acts like your AI programming best friend.
What can it do?
Well…everything!

Stop, I can only so efficient! Source: replit
Could you believe built-in questions and answers to any coding question?
How about AI-powered code suggestions?
Maybe built-in on-demand code snippets, an ask away?
Perhaps AI-powered debugging, suggesting any fix from a missing semicolon to the wrong import statement?
All powered by AI.
It’s in beta right now, but we expect it to release quickly. Another AI-superpower for programmers.
The best programmers will use these tools to their advantage.
