šŸ¤– Hot AI startup takes on Microsoft

PLUS: OpenAI in Word, Outlook, PPT

While the rest of the world focuses on Super Bowl Sunday, we’re focused on Superb…AI…news.

Look, I tried.

Let’s start with a familiar face.

Classic Microsoft apps get a dose of AI

Hey, look, another Microsoft headline!

As if news about Bing and OpenAI shaking hands didn’t cause enough ruckus.

Rumor has it that Microsoft will demo OpenAI integration with a few other powerhouse apps in the coming weeks.

Which apps? Oh, just Word, Powerpoint, and Outlook.

What might that look like?

For one, a search function that works well in Outlook. So, we’re already lightyears ahead.

For Word, you can prompt the AI sidebar, and let it fill out a generic template for you. You then fill in the details.

For Powerpoint, it looks to automate building charts and graphs.

Two takeaways.

  1. Microsoft is moving at a breakneck pace to add these features to all its apps. It’s rare to see a tech giant move at this speed.

  2. Google will be right on their tails.

Pair programming with AI?

We’ve covered autocomplete for design work, and auto-generated templates for writing software. Now, let’s throw one to the devs.

Enter Magic. Billed as ā€œcode completion across your repositoryā€. I’d describe it as a direct competitor to Github copilot. The Github copilot creator even invested in it.

This tool is different. It’s meant to feel more like a pair programming buddy and less like simple autocomplete.

And, surprise surprise, much like AI-generated image startups, it’s facing legal issues. Those stem from - you guessed it - what the model trained on. In this case, code available to the public.

The founders are tight lipped about how it works under the hood, and Copilot has a million user headstart.

We’ll see what they can do to differentiate.

Another day, another tech veteran jumps into AI

Everyone’s getting in on the AI hype.

Aside from all big tech, we’ve got the Instagram cofounders cooking up something new. Now, the former Salesforce co-CEO is making a big bet.

humbled and inspired to announce… Source: LinkedIn

In a very vague post on LinkedIn, Taylor, along with a Google VP, announced a new joint venture. To ā€œapply AI to solve some of the most important problems in business.ā€

If that isn’t the most generic company description, I don’t know what is.

Success in one company != success in another. This is another log on the roaring fire that is our AI summer.

😳 These AI deepfakes look too real

Posting two of these. Deepfakes using AI are getting spooky.
