PLUS: Godfather of AI has a warning
How long do you think it will be until we see a top 100 song using AI?
We give it under a year.

š¬ OpenAI is serious about getting paid

Want to use GPT-4? Youāve got two ways.
One, pay OpenAI directly. Two, use a service that pays OpenAI directly.
A github repo has a third way. Itās free. And OpenAI isnāt happy about it.
Github user Xtekkyās repo, called gpt4free, allows anyone to access GPT-4 without paying.
The secret? It uses APIs from other services, like you.com, that pay for GPT-4.
Thatās not cool, according to OpenAI. They sent a cease-and-desist, and gave him five days to comply.
Now, Xtekky says that those websites seem to be cool with it, and if they arenāt heāll remove them from the service.
Clever. Still, though, heāll have to comply.
So much for āopenā AI.
š Godfather of AI quits Google, warns of future
In the NYT today, Cade Metz implies that I left Google so that I could criticize Google. Actually, I left so that I could talk about the dangers of AI without considering how this impacts Google. Google has acted very responsibly.

Geoffrey Hinton. Not exactly a household name.
But heās the godfather of not just Google AI, but AI in general. And he resigned from Google.
Itās not only a major blow to Google. He resigned, in part, to be able to speak, and warn, freely about the risks of AI.
Why? Heās alarmed at the pace of the AI arms race.
āIt is hard to see how you can prevent the bad actors from using it for bad things,ā he said. āLook at how it was five years ago and how it is now. Take the difference and propagate it forwards. Thatās scary.ā
His worries are the same as everyone elseās. Relentless progress, but a society that isnāt ready for the implications. Fake text, photo, and video in every corner of the internet.
It might be too late to contain.
𤯠IBMās CEO wants to replace thousands of jobs with AI

IBM CEO Arvind Krishna has a plan to make his company relevant again. And save a bit of money too.
The problem: Theyāve got 26,000 non-customer-facing roles.
The plan: replace a TON of them with AI.
āI could easily see 30% of that getting replaced by AI and automation over a five-year period.ā
Letās break out the calculatorā¦thatās 7,800 jobs lost to artificial intelligence.
Itās not all thinking roles. His examples were āproviding employment verificationā and āmoving employees between departments.ā
So, donāt panic yet. Unless employment verification is your niche.
IBM stock has been flat-to-down over the past 5 years. Theyāve got to try something.
And if thereās one thing wall street loves during a recession, itās job cuts.
