🤖 Why China IMMEDIATELY banned ChatGPT
PLUS: Nvidia surges on AI promises
Good morning.
Tons of news coming this week. Be ready.
Oh, and if you’re reading this in China, sorry…it’ll get blocked.
🤖 Top Stories
🙄 Nvidia reminds everyone they’re an AI stock, stock surges as result
Nvidia is going all-in on AI.
We already knew that. It’s hard to run AI without…gear to run it on.
But on Thursday’s earnings call, CEO Jensen Huang doubled down. He declared AI at an “inflection point.”
I’m not surprised that Nvidia, one of the largest makers of GPUs in the world, would say that.
After all, they’re poised to win big from an AI revolution.

Nvidia’s GPUs are a gold mine for AI.
Every large-scale AI model runs on GPUs, and most of those are Nvidia’s.
But like I said, we knew that.
They didn’t really announce anything new, though, besides saying “HEY! Look at us! We LOVE AI! AI loves us!”
To their credit, they did announce a few AI partnerships with Google and Oracle. They also detailed a supercomputer they’re building with Microsoft.
That’s not what drove interest.
Despite mixed earnings, the stock jumped. Why?
Answer: Investors are hungry to find companies that can grow with AI’s hype.
While no one can predict the future, it’s clear Nvidia thinks AI will win the hearts and minds of wall street.
🤔 Wall Street says no AI allowed…yet
Wall street banks are banning ChatGPT and other AI chatbots.
But not for the reason you’d think. The truth is far more boring.
Every profession is getting in on the AI hype, so it’s natural to see the bankers with dollar signs in their eyes.
Even lawyers are using it.
So why can’t wall street banks let their ranks go crazy?

For now, Wall Street AI can only do coffee runs for MDs.
Well…they need to vet it first.
Turns out, a highly regulated industry needs to investigate tools before it lets it have access to everything financial.
Figures why so many banking apps are stuck in the 90s. Making change in a regulated industry takes time.
For now, their use of ChatGPT will have to be, uh…off the record.
😬 China bans AI, surprises no one
Surprise, surprise. China clamped down on apps using ChatGPT. By banning them.
Although ChatGPT is not officially offered in China, several apps used a VPN to offer access.
As of now that loophole is, well, closed.
Why was access closed? Well, you can probably guess.
The CCP claims it’s due to ChatGPT’s ability to spread misinformation from the United States.
Really, it’s to control their propaganda.
Take Xinjiang, the region where alleged genocide is taking place right now.
When prompted on the subject, ChatGPT committed the heinous crime of…highlighting that alleged genocide.
And, since the CCP can’t have that, they shut it down.
AliBaba already announced they’re working on their own version of ChatGPT. I suspect it’ll run through the censorship filter and magically get the go-ahead to operate.

Clearly, I prompted this outside China.
Here’s the thing. Are we surprised?
This isn’t a question of true versus false information. To be fair, many argue that ChatGPT hasn’t answered a crucial problem of conversational AI. Namely, what is fake and what is real. And that’s still a real issue.
But this? Pure censorship. Plain and simple.

AI patch tracker.
Came across this on instagram. It’s from a company called @Vochlea. They use AI to track the pitch of your voice and translate it into midi notation in real time. Pretty damn cool.
I’m constantly humming and talking in sing song and this would be so fun to play with
